| Charge-Backs
or Guilty as Charged |
 |
Choosing
a Card Processor for Internet transactions is like
getting
married, you even have to present a license (DBA)
and
it’s better or worse until death do you part (your death,
not
the Provider’s).
Remember
the shock you got, or if you’re new in this Internet
business,
the
surprise debit you received when you checked your
morning
bank
balance. You
have a Charge-Back.
There
goes not only your money but your merchandise as well, and
it is
probably
being sold to some back alley person
who deals out of their mini van.
Also lost is your
shipping
charge and the only people making-out is the post office,
UPS
/ FedEx.
Now back to the Debit, your account was deducted
even
before you knew anything about this.
I hope you didn’t have
a
low bank balance or it may have cost you an additional $25
not
to mention the additional Charge-Back fee your credit card
processor
is
going to charge you. Up
to now you have been treated as a criminal,
you stole from the
Credit Card people. Why don’t Visa, M/C., AmEx
and others go after
the
so-called
customer who
places orders to
defraud ?
Yes,
there are legitimate "reverse charges", late
shipping, lost parcels
and such, but don't sneak up on a guy in the middle of the
night and take
money back out of bank accounts, haven't the credit card
people ever
heard of E-mail, drop the merchant a line so they and do a
simple Refund.
Answer:
It’s easier, cheaper and faster to go after the
businesses.
Retrieve the money first, ask questions later by snail
mail.
It
seems that the C/C companies
may even in a minor way
encourage theft and love to collect your
Charge-back
penalties, then on top of it all, you spend over an hour
filling
out the forms for a lottery chance to recover your own
money.
What
a pain in everyone's
bottom line. Don't
fool yourself
in trying to tell the boy's up in the offices, "but the
customer signed the
delivery registration slip" then comes the response,
"no card holder Signature
on
Credit Card transaction",
your sunk!
All I can say at this point is there
is
no definitive answers except,
"be careful”
and request the card owners
CVV
numbers,
make sure all
information matches, if in doubt call the customer, ask them
some question
only the card holder would know, "what is the bank
phone number for the
card as shown on your statement?". In all due
respect to the credit card
companies, it's their money, when you sell something, the
card holder is
borrowing the money to give to you, therefore it's the banks
money.
